A charming, humorous octopus platformer that's perfect for evening sessions
I played the demo for Darwin's Paradox! and was immediately excited to jump into the full game. I'm happy to report that the finished product delivered on that promise. This is a light, fun, and polished cinematic platformer that kept me smiling throughout.
The game is mostly linear with well-integrated puzzle-platforming, chase sequences, and light exploration, all wrapped in a delightful contrast between a cute octopus protagonist and the harsh industrial world he finds himself in.
Gameplay & Pacing
Platforming feels super fun and flows naturally, with clever integration of humour that never feels forced. The puzzling is well-balanced — challenging enough to keep you engaged without ever becoming overly difficult or frustrating. Chase sessions strike the perfect balance: tense enough to get the adrenaline going, but never so punishing that they break the fun.
Control scheme is solid overall, with everything feeling polished. There were only a few isolated moments where platforming precision felt slightly off, but nothing that seriously impacted the experience.
I would've loved a bit more water-based platforming (it feels so natural for an octopus!), but that minor wish didn't take away from how much I enjoyed the game.
Story, Humour & Presentation
The story is fun and light-hearted, perfectly matching the tone of the game. Darwin himself is incredibly cute — his expressive animations and non-verbal communication do a fantastic job of making you care about this little octopus on his big adventure.
The humour lands consistently well throughout, especially in how platforming challenges are designed around Darwin's octopus abilities in funny and creative ways. The visual contrast between friendly underwater-style elements and the gritty industrial setting is striking and adds a lot of personality to the world.
Graphics are great across the board, with charming art direction that makes every scene pop.
Final Dad Verdict
Darwin's Paradox! is a delightful, bite-sized adventure that’s ideal for evening play sessions. At just under 5 hours, it never overstays its welcome and leaves you wanting just a little more (in the best way).
The combination of fun platforming, well-paced puzzling, tense-but-fair chase sequences, solid controls, and consistent humour makes this a very easy recommendation. Darwin’s cuteness and expressive face pull you right in, even without any dialogue.
If you’re looking for a charming, family-friendly cinematic platformer with great humour and polished gameplay that you can finish in a few relaxing evenings, this one is well worth picking up.
